Something In The Water
I didn't post a picture of Dana's sweater in progress, and apparently I won't be posting a picture of the finished product tonight. As I write this, I am trying to upload a bunch of pics to my Kodak gallery. My computer doesn't want to do that and upload a pic or three to the blog.
So I have three baby projects down (pink sweater for Julie, lavender sweater for Dana, and greenish blanket for Amanda who gets a blanket instead of a sweater in honor of the fact that she's the only one having a boy so far) and I've got six more to go. Wait, I've got seven to go....I found out yesterday that another friend is knocked up. There must be something in the water! (Except one mother-to-be is sooo not in the area, so she kinda ruins my water theory.)
Jason and I have big plans this weekend. It's time to work on the downstairs bathroom. It has been crying for a re-do since we bought the house. I don't know how much we'll get done, but we'll be putting the labor into Labor Day this year. (And by we I mean Jason.) I think Mom is coming over on Sunday to teach me how to refinish some chairs she bought for me at an antique store for my birthday and to help me change the seat fabric on the dining room chairs. I'm sure many exciting things will happen this weekend for you to read about later.
Click here to go to the Kodak site. You'll need a password to view the pics, so text/comment/facebook/myspace/call/email me to request it.

It's Finally Over!
Well, at least for four years. Or two, if you think about the Winter Olympics.
In the last few days I have added greatly to the list of sports I watched. Really random sports, too. However, my brain is officially fried from sports, and I can't type another word or think another thought about them. Except, click here to hear a funny NPR bit about London 2012. I've heard it twice, and both times I laughed so hard I cried. Whereas, when watching the closing ceremony of the Olympics this year, I just cried. The only good bit in the closing ceremonies was Beckham in his shiny gold shoes kicking the football off the open top of the double decker bus.
I have a new job duty for Lincoln Days (1st weekend in October). I am now a stage manager. I agreed to do it because someone (Dad) promised I wouldn't have to work the parade this year. Lies!! I still have to help keep the parade moving and monitor for those stupid candy throwers. (You know the ones I'm talking about. They know how dangerous it is to throw candy around moving vehicles, but they do it anyway. They don't care how many children could get RUN OVER by the parade vehicles. Grr!) And to round out the general crapiness of working Lincoln Days, Delayna & I are organizing the baby pageant again this year. (Disclaimer: Lincoln Days is not crappy. Working Lincoln Days is crappy. You just don't realize how much work is put into festivals until your parents force you to work them.) If you're in the area, please come to Lincoln Days. I promise it will be lots of fun as a spectator.

Going for Gold in Bocce Ball?
Remember this sweater?
Jason & I were trying to think of sports we would like to see in the Olympics. Here's what we came up with: cricket (Jas), free running (me; I think it would be super awesome!), bocce ball (me), lawn darts (me), shuffleboard (Jas), log rolling (me), and horseshoes (me). Anyone want to add to the list?

Bizarre
This will be a short entry. I guess you know that the US came to an agreement with Poland about putting in a missile defense system. And Russia said something to the effect the Poland is just asking for Russia to invade. And Condy said that what Russia said was just "bizarre." I though, what a perfect response!

Where's My Scrunchy?
I'm going to make a bold statement here- trampoline is not a sport. Just isn't.
I've been OD'ing on Olympics this past week. I didn't mean to watch. I am opposed to the Olympics. I don't think professional athletes should be allowed to compete. My road to ruin began innocently enough last Sunday. I caught the last two minutes of a soccer match. From there I started watching weightlifting. Then gymnastics, swimming, sychronized diving, badmitton, women's basketball, trampoline, men's water polo, equestrian, sculling, indoor cycling, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, fencing, track, discus, steeplechase, and the women's marathon. The last was my favorite. I think Constantina Tomescu Dita is my new favorite athlete. (Seriously. I know it would be more popular to say Michael Phelps or Dara Torres. But I'm not running a popularity race.) Kerri Walsh and Kate May-Treanor are really awesome, too; I've stopped thinking of skin cancer whenever I see them and think GOLD! Women's pole vaulting is on right now. Wow. Jason & I are wondering if we'll ever catch the ping pong or the sailing.
I haven't been a complete couch potato. I've been knitting. It's my own Olympic sport right now. The pink sweater is still without arms. I haven't progressed on the 1st green sweater. I am almost finished with a lavender sweater. I started on a 2nd green sweater. And finally, the baby blanket is about 6 inches long. Why didn't I finish one project before starting another? First off, I hate sewing on sleeves. That's my least favorite thing to do. Secondly, I just work better when I have multiple projects on the needles. I have to have at least one sweater finished before next Thursday.
I also made a kick-ass crab scampi last night. I have no idea where these new found kitchen skills are coming from. I take it as a good sign; last November I started baking like crazy, and three months later I got pregnant. It would be really nice if that happened again, but we're not stressing over it in this household. Either it happens or it doesn't, and we won't allow ourselves to get bent out of shape over the size & make-up of our family.
Meli & I had lots of fun today listening to NPR together and texting comments back & forth about the stories. The number one story we were into was, of course, about the Olympics. They were introducing us to the Swimming Marathon. Sounds very interesting. Click here to read and/or hear the story. Our bi-partisan consensus is that NPR rocks!

TGIWBWTASILWWNSMITB
Before I get to the unexciting news of the day, I have to get something off my chest. My favorite blog was taken down today. The author's words were being twisted and taken out of context by a reader. Unfortunately, I have the same reader. I know this because my sitemeter tracks that information. I know where you are and the frequency & length of your visits. If you are reading my blog to get "dirt" on your sister-in-law, then please stop reading. I don't want to be dragged into anymore of your drama. Speaking of which- a gracious hostess always gives up her bed to a guest. No matter what. But hey, that's just how my parents raised my brother and me. If, on the other hand, you are reading out of good intentions, then welcome. I had, at one time, hoped that we could become friends....
Moving on. I got my filling fixed this afternoon. It's been 3 hours, and my jaw, lip and tongue are still numb. I'm kinda hungry, but I can't eat until the numbness wears off. I had a bad experience when I was 15. Let's just say, it's hard to distinguish between a pork barbecue sandwich and your lip when everything is numb. Nice.
I found out last night that one of my high school classmates died in July. She was in a car wreck, and left behind a husband and a four year old. I have to dig through the newspapers at Mom & Dad's to find the article. I wish I hadn't let our subscription go. Her name was Carmela. So when you say your bedtime prayers, please say a prayer for Carmela's family, for the child who won't get the chance to know its mother.
Oh yeah, if you want to know what the acronym in the title stands for, send me a gmail, hotmail, myspace, facebook, txt, however it is you get in touch with me. A prize for anyone who can correctly guess what it is!
